Rare Qing Dynasty Double Dragon Order, 2nd Class 2nd Grade Sash Badge – Imperial China Medal
Historical Background: This is a Second Type Double Dragon Order, instituted during the late Qing Dynasty as part of China's modernization of its award system. The Double Dragon Order was primarily awarded to foreign dignitaries and high-ranking officials in recognition of service or diplomatic merit to the Qing Empire. This particular example represents the 2nd Class, 2nd Grade, typically bestowed upon foreign envoys of second rank, such as envoys extraordinary and ministers plenipotentiary.
The "Second Type" of the order features a more refined and decorative design compared to the earlier first type, introduced during the Guangxu Emperor's reign. The order reflects Chinese craftsmanship and imperial symbolism with distinctive Manchu and Han elements.
