The medal is a distinctive four-pointed cross with pointed terminals, suspended from a circular ring. The obverse features a plain central field, while the reverse bears the inscription “MERITE SAHARIEN”. The suspension ring is inscribed “REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE”.
