This rare version of the Military Medal is a luxurious and superior-quality type exclusively awarded to Generals who had previously received the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor and led victorious armies. It is one of the highest military distinctions in France, ranking only below the Legion of Honor and the Order of the Liberation.
