Original Polish WW1 Military Cap Badge – “Orzeł Legionowy” with Rare Openwork Amazon Shield

This is an authentic World War I Polish eagle cap badge, known as the “Orzeł Legionowy.” This particular example features a rare openwork Amazon shield at the base — a design variation that is highly uncommon and sought after by collectors.

Features:

  • Design: Polish eagle with wings spread, floral detailing on each side, and a pierced openwork Amazon-style shield beneath.

  • Material: Very thin stamped brass sheet, consistent with wartime or field-made production.

  • Dimensions: Approximately 39.10 mm tall × 30.52 mm wide

Condition:

This badge is in very poor condition. It has a visible crack on the lower left, signs of previous adhesive repair, and general structural weakness. Despite the damage, the badge retains its historical integrity and features an extremely rare design. The patina and wear are consistent with genuine age and use.

The openwork shield is a distinctive feature, not commonly found in standard versions of the Legion eagle badge. It likely represents a limited production type or possibly a field-personalized variation, making it a rare example of its kind.

A significant and collectible piece of Polish military history from the World War I era. Guaranteed original. Not a reproduction.
